Your Income Tax Return Status can be found easily on the IRS website.  Just log in and get personalized information that’s updated every day.  You can find out if your tax return is delayed, in process, held up for some reason, or finished and your refund is on its way.  Don’t look for Refund Cycle Charts anymore, since they are obsolete now.

Every year, thousands and maybe millions of taxpayers who’ve already filed their federal income tax returns work themselves into a panic for absolutely no reason at all.  They file taxes as early as possible – usually late January- and count the minutes until that refund money comes through.  If a friend files at the same time or later and get his or her refund faster, a state of panic sets in.  Did the IRS even GET my tax return?  If not, where did it go?

That panic turns into anger…Where’s My Refund? becomes a demand, not a question!  But all the IRS can tell you is your Income Tax Return Status…nothing else.   No two tax returns are alike, so just because everyone you know got their tax refund already, at least you don’t have to panic since you can at least check to see if the IRS got your tax return.

So, if your friend’s IRS refund came but yours didn’t, don’t panic.  There is no set rule anymore for how long the refund process is going to take.  Some will just zip along through the IRS processes and come out just fine in 10 days.  Others may get delayed so they can be examined more closely, which means your IRS refund will take longer to process.  Provided you didn’t make any mistakes, this doesn’t mean you won’t get your refund, it just means it may take longer.
